Public kayak-launch options around Wilmington
Begin with the kind of water and launch you need. A freshwater lake, tidal creek and river access are different outings. This directory identifies published launch facilities; it does not recommend routes or certify paddling conditions.
Published-source research reviewed October 3, 2026. Operated by Phased Data Labs.
Check the launch rules
Smith Creek documents a floating dock for small non-motorized craft. Trails End lists a maximum boat length and parking restrictions. State-park marina use can have separate fees. Read the operator’s current rules for your intended activity before loading equipment.
Check conditions separately
Launch availability alone is not enough to decide whether to paddle. Consult appropriate official weather, tide and water-condition sources and use suitable equipment and experience for the water. We do not publish a beginner-safety label based only on a facility listing.
Plan parking and the return
River Road and Trails End do not permit overnight parking. Other facilities have their own rules and operating hours. Establish where the car can remain and when you need to return. A launch listing is not permission to leave a vehicle for island camping.
